Local media and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights are reporting that six more bodies were discovered in southern Syria’s Suwayda province, bringing the death toll from this week’s clashes between pro- and anti-government factions to at least 23. All six were reportedly members of a pro-government faction and were shot, possibly after having been detained by anti-government fighters. Local media is suggesting that this week’s fighting was sparked by anger over a number of extralegal actions undertaken by pro-government militias, including kidnappings for ransom.
