MIDDLE EAST

YEMEN

The first commercial flight out of Sanaa in six years took off on Monday bound for Amman. The resumption of limited air travel into and out of the Yemeni capital was part of the terms of the two month Yemeni ceasefire that’s, um, going to expire pretty soon if it’s not extended. After a false start a couple of weeks ago, Yemeni rebels and the Yemeni government came to an agreement last week to permit those whose travel documents had been issued by the rebel administration to board these flights. The flight included a significant number of passengers who’d been waiting for a chance to leave Yemen in order to seek medical treatment abroad. Flights between Sanaa and Cairo may also be resumed under this agreement.
